In de afgelopen maanden (en ook reeds daarvoor) is naar aanleiding van Black Lives Matter een groeiend aantal artikelen over dit onderwerp gepubliceerd. Hier zijn een aantal daarvan opgenomen.

Beethoven was Black?

Deze aanname werd het eerst geponeerd in 1907 door de Afro-Britse componist Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912). Het was hem opgevallen, dat zijn eigen fysionomie opmerkelijke gelijkenis vertoonde met die van Beethoven. Naar aanleiding van zijn recente ervaringen met de segregatiewetgeving in de VS, stelde hij “If the greatest of all musicians were alive today, he would find it impossible to obtain hotel accommodation in certain American cities.”
